These outings are not only opportunities to engage in physical activity but also serve as inclusive gatherings, open to both members and non-members alike. Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, as these walks, strolls, and runs double as KitiKyaUrafiki Support Group meetings, providing a supportive space for open discussions and shared experiences.

Oloolua Nature Walk

Saturday 31st, JANUARY

To kick off the year on a positive note, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds visited Oloolua Forest, Karen, with the theme of Mental Wellness. Participants wore dashes of green, a colour widely associated with mental health awareness and wellbeing.

Surrounded by nature, we explored the waterfall and caves, enjoyed the cool shade of the forest, and took part in a refreshing 5km nature walk. The day was filled with laughter and connection through fun group games, including mental health charades and creative song-making in groups.
We were delighted to host over 30 participants, joined by friends from AKAD and Mahali Pa Watoto Gap Year students, making the experience even more vibrant and enriching.

Lenana Forest Orange Walk

Saturday 29th, NOVEMBER

To wrap up the year, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds returned to Lenana Forest on 29th November — the same place where we began our walks in January 2025.

We added a touch of orange to honour the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, especially violence faced by women and girls online.

We enjoyed a refreshing 5km nature walk, relaxed by the pond for a bit of fishing, and shared meaningful conversations as we checked in on each other and reflected on the year. We also took time to discuss GBV and ways we can continue creating safe, supportive spaces.

Lenana Forest gifted us its beauty — the trees, flowers, birds, ducks, and vibrant forest life.

We wish you all happy holidays, and we look forward to more walks, activities, and community moments with you in 2026.

Nairobi War Cemetery-Ngong Road

On 25th October, Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds visited the Nairobi Commonwealth War Cemetery for our end-month activity. We marked the month by wearing a touch of green in honour of World Mental Health Day.

We enjoyed the serene gardens, beautiful butterflies, birds, baboons, and the calming natural environment. We also had engaging discussions on mental health, fun quizzes, and spent time learning about the history of the Second World War.

Karura Forest Nature Walk

To mark World Suicide Prevention Day, PMWC and friends came together for a meaningful 10km walk at Karura Forest. 🌿 The serene environment provided the perfect backdrop for reflection, connection, and raising awareness on the importance of mental health.

Along the trail, participants engaged in insightful discussions on suicide prevention, learning to recognize early warning signs, how to offer support, and the importance of fostering safe spaces where people feel heard and valued. 💚

The walk was not just about covering distance — it was about building community, breaking stigma, and taking collective steps toward hope and healing.

🌿 As part of Self-Care Month (July), PMWC organized a refreshing nature walk at the Nairobi Arboretum on 26th July 2025. The serene greenery provided the perfect backdrop to reflect on the importance of mental health and self-care. Walking among the trees reminded us that just like nature, our minds need time to breathe, rest, and renew. Nairobi National Museum Of Kenya

We marked Men’s Mental Health Month with a reflective visit to the National Museum of Kenya, exploring galleries on evolution, birds, bees, currency, Kenyan history, art, animals, and butterflies.

🌿 We connected with nature at the Botanical Garden, explored the Snake Park, and enjoyed a peaceful walk through John Michuki Park.

The day ended with a meaningful conversation on men’s mental health awareness — a reminder that healing can begin in spaces of history, nature, and community.

Ngong Forest Sanctuary

To mark Mental Health Awareness Month,PMWC and friends visited the Ngong Forest Sanctuary and held a vibrant 5km walk, drawing participants in shades of green. Under clear skies, attendees not only enjoyed the physical activity but also found comfort and inspiration in nature’s shade, engaging in vital discussions on mental well-being. The day’s serene atmosphere extended for some to the Ngong Road Commonwealth War Graves, where the beautiful green environment provided a further sense of peace and reflection.

Our nature walk at the Nairobi Safari Walk was nothing short of magical! We soaked in the fresh air 🌬️, spotted animals at the Lang’ata Orphanage 🐘🦓🦒, and most importantly, had an open, heartfelt discussion on autism and mental health 🧠💬.

April was all about Autism Acceptance 💙 and we showed up in style—dressed in blue to stand in solidarity and spark conversation. It was a beautiful blend of learning, connection, and healing in nature 🌞🌳.

🌿 Ngong Hills Nature Hike Recap! ⛰️

What an adventure! 💪 On our latest nature hike, we conquered all 7 hills of the scenic Ngong Hills and made our way out through Corner Baridi. The weather was on our side — cool, clear, and perfect for hiking! ☀️🌬️

We kicked off the trek at 9 AM and wrapped it up by 2 PM, tired but full of joy and accomplishment. 🕘➡️🕑 Along the way, we were treated to some refreshing sugar cane juice — the perfect boost to keep us going! 🍹

2 Nights Trip-Olorgesaille Pre-Historic Site

To wrap up an incredible year, PMWC organized an unforgettable 2-night trip to the breathtaking Olorgesaille Prehistoric Site. 🏕️ The adventure was packed with laughter, learning, and memories to last a lifetime!A perfect blend of relaxation, fun, and mental wellness. Participants reveled in the scenic beauty and cozy bandandas, creating a welcoming and tranquil atmosphere. Evenings were a delight as everyone gathered around the kitchen-based campfire to enjoy dinner, play games, share stories, and bond as a group. Mornings began with rejuvenating yoga, meditation, stretching exercises, and walks, providing a mindful start to the day. The trip was packed with engaging activities such as team-building exercises, badminton, charades, and a thought-provoking mental health quiz , which raised awareness about mental health in an interactive way. It was truly a retreat filled with laughter, learning, and connections.We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate mental health, friendship, and self-care as we gear up for an exciting new year. 🌟

Mamba Village Nature Walk-Langata Road

For October’s World Mental Health Day, the theme was “Mental Health in the Workplace.” PMWC and friends marked the day with a scenic 5km walk at Mamba Village, where we not only got our steps in but also got up close and personal with crocodiles—learning some wild facts about them! We spotted ducks, exotic birds, ostriches, tortoises, and monkeys, all against a backdrop of lush gardens and peaceful water areas. Karura Forest Nature Walk-Kiambu Road

In September, to commemorate World Suicide Prevention Month, PMWC and friends embarked on a 12.6km walk to raise awareness about suicide prevention. The day was not only about raising awareness but also fostering joy and connection, as participants engaged in fun activities and games along the way. As we journeyed through the serene forest, we were able to appreciate nature’s beauty, with stunning waterfalls and the peaceful shade of the towering trees providing moments of reflection and calm.

Throughout the walk, we held meaningful discussions about the importance of seeking therapy, breaking the silence on mental health struggles, and how we can support one another in times of need. The event encouraged participants to open up about the mental health challenges we all face and reminded everyone that no one is alone on this journey.

Ngong Hills Hike-Ngong

To mark World International Youth Day, PMWC organized a rejuvenating 16km hike through the scenic Ngong Hills on a warm Saturday morning. The event focused on mental health and the pivotal role youth play as the tides of change. Along the way, participants reflected on the unique challenges facing young people today and discussed the importance of youth being agents of transformation, particularly in matters of mental wellness.

The group enjoyed refreshing sugarcane juice at the summit, fostering meaningful conversations about rediscovering youth as a key component of self-care. The hike encouraged everyone to embrace the outdoors as a way to recharge mentally and physically, while also addressing the importance of mental health in ensuring youth continue to lead positive, impactful change.

Despite the weather forecast predicting rain from Saturday, April 27th through Sunday, April 28th, Mother Nature surprised us with a perfectly sunny day.

HealthyBodiesHealthyMinds seized the opportunity and enjoyed a delightful one-hour walk at Nairobi City Park. We observed playful monkeys and wrapped up our walk with an engaging discussion on alcoholism. It was a memorable and invigorating experience for all!

Karen Plains Walk-Karen

Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds embarked on a refreshing 6km walk around Karen Plains, enjoying the invigorating outdoors while raising awareness about bipolar disorder. PMWC was delighted to be joined by the Circle Mental Health Club from Nairobi Academy, fostering camaraderie and promoting mental health advocacy through meaningful engagement.

Regular exercise has been shown to have profound effects on mental health, including reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression, improving mood, and enhancing overall well-being. Physical activity releases endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals, which can help alleviate stress and boost self-esteem. Additionally, engaging in exercise promotes better sleep, increases energy levels, and provides a sense of accomplishment. By incorporating exercise into one’s routine, individuals can cultivate resilience, manage symptoms of mental illness, and enhance their overall quality of life.

Exploring the Nairobi Safari Walk was an exhilarating journey through nature’s marvels and wildlife wonders. Spanning a scenic 2.5-kilometer trail, the walk led us on a captivating adventure, offering glimpses into the diverse habitats and captivating creatures that call this sanctuary home. Along the way, we encountered an array of fascinating animals, from majestic lions and graceful giraffes to playful monkeys and colorful birds. The highlight of our visit was the heartwarming experience of meeting Morris the giraffe. It was a humbling reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship and the profound bond between humans and animals. Our time at the Nairobi Safari Walk left us inspired and reconnected with the natural world, reaffirming our commitment to promote mental wellness amidst the beauty of nature’s embrace.

Karura Forest Nairobi-Kiambu Road

Our group’s visit to Karura Forest along Kiambu Road in Kenya was a captivating journey into the heart of nature’s wonders. The adventure began with the inviting trails that wove through the verdant landscape, providing a much-needed escape from the urban hustle. As we strolled along, the towering trees formed a lush canopy overhead, and the symphony of birdsong accompanied our every step. The trails eventually led us to the enchanting Karura Waterfall, a breathtaking spectacle where the crystal-clear waters cascaded down moss-covered rocks. The cool mist enveloped us as we paused to admire the sheer beauty of nature’s artistry. Continuing our exploration, we discovered the hidden marvels of Karura Forest – the mysterious caves concealed among the foliage. Venturing inside, the caves unveiled a world of intriguing formations and a sense of ancient mystique. Our group, awestruck by the untouched beauty and serenity of Karura Forest, left with a profound appreciation for the importance of preserving such natural treasures.

Commonwealth War Cemetry Nairobi-Ngong Road

#HealthyBodiesHealthyMinds met at the Commonwealth Nairobi War Cemetry on Ngong road.We learnt about World War II,paid respects to war heroes and enjoyed the serene and green environment and practiced grounding activities as part of self-care.We also participated on quizess about Kenya,the World War and other commonwealth countries.

The war cemetery was opened in 1941 by the military authorities and is the final resting place to 1,952  war graves (11 unknown). It also containes 89 non-war graves. The Commission also takes care for 1 French war grave. It’s the biggest war cemetery of Eastern Africa.
