“Mental Wellness Month “
January marks Mental Wellness Month, a timely reminder that as we step into a new year, our mental health deserves as much attention as our goals, plans, and resolutions. The beginning of the year often comes with renewed hope, fresh starts, and ambitious intentions—but it can also bring pressure, uncertainty, and emotional strain.
Many of us set New Year’s resolutions focused on productivity, fitness, finances, or career growth. While these goals are important, they are most sustainable when grounded in mental and emotional wellbeing. Taking care of your mental health allows you to stay focused, resilient, and compassionate with yourself as you navigate the year ahead.
Mental wellness is not just about avoiding distress—it is about building healthy coping skills, emotional awareness, balance, and self-kindness. Simple practices such as checking in with your emotions, setting realistic goals, maintaining supportive relationships, and seeking help when needed can make a meaningful difference.
As we observe Mental Wellness Month, we encourage individuals, families, and communities to:
-
Reflect on how they are really doing
-
Set intentions that support both mental and physical wellbeing
-
Normalize conversations around mental health
-
Prioritize rest, boundaries, and self-care alongside ambition
A healthy mind strengthens our ability to learn, work, connect, and thrive. As we begin this new year, let us commit to caring for our mental health—not just as a resolution, but as a lifestyle.
Here’s to a year of balance, growth, and wellbeing.
OUR FOCUS AREAS

The on-line based platforms of, FB, IG, LinkedIn, and the website, together with old media (radio, Tv and print) are used to create Mental health (MH) awareness within and beyond Kenya’s borders.
The variety in membership ensures that, different demographics (e.g. youth, men) are targeted with appropriate content. Interactive ‘live’ discussions, with, especially authority figures, enlightening viewers on Government mental health policies, remain some of the favourites.
Key MH days and other issues of concern, are commemorated through #campaigns. Our resource pool, shares and re-shares useful contacts such as HelpLines and other related areas
Training area’s main objective, is to equip community leaders (the vulnerable and marginalized populations), teachers and parents, with knowledge and skills, to enable them enhance mental health awareness in their communities.
Further, in -house training on various topics, are organized, to build members’ capacity. This is an going process as PMWC-Ke is keen to, create a dynamic resource pool of lay counsellors within its’ membership.
In terms of Research, PMWC-Ke is putting the necessary structures in place to collaborate /work on projects
This focus area, operates on the ground, and promotes Mental Health (MH) through initiatives such as talks, workshops and sports-centered activities. The awareness targets learners, teachers and parents, to improve mental wellness, improve relationships and reduce stress.
Currently, the most active project areas are Safety in Schools (SiS), Community support, Support groups/KitiKyaUrafiki and Futaa Kivyetu, as we continue looking for an entry point to Safety in the Work place (SiW).
